Ingredients

Dal

  • 1 cup Toor Dal
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3 cups water

Vegetable Soup

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 carrot, peeled and diced
  • 8 drumsticks
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 3 water
  • 2 tbsp Sambar powder homemade
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili powder (Optional)
  • 2 tbsp Tamarind Paste

Tadka/Tempering (Optional)

  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil
  • 1 tsp black mustard seeds
  • 10 curry leaves (fresh)

Instructions

Step 1
Add the ingredients for the dal to a large pot over medium high heat. Simmer until Dal is cooked. This will take 30 - 40 minutes. 

Step 2
Add oil, carrots, drumsticks and salt to blender and select saute. 

Step 3
Add the remaining ingredients and select chunky. 

Step 4
Pour into the cooked Daal and mix throughly. 

Step 5
Tadka (Optional)  Warm oil in a pan. One hot, add the mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds being to pop, pour the oil over the soup.
